Playwriting

The USC School of Dramatic Arts produced my debut full-length play, Blind Me Tender, in  2013 while I was finishing my undergraduate degree. My plays have been developed at Coeurage Theatre Company and the USC Brand New Theatre One-Act Festival.

My characters deal with loss, loneliness, and the sinking realization that the world is not what it seemed. Many of my plays are set in Kentucky and deal with a reckoning of the old and the new.

Poetry

A white guy writing and performing slam poetry — what’s not to love? I was invited to headline ArtBlast in Los Angeles in 2016 and performed eight pieces, including the one below. I continue to write poetry today, and will gladly perform at any event in the Chicago area (or around the world if you want to cover my travel expenses).

This poem is entitled "1991 — ."

Speeches

I delivered the undergraduate commencement speech for the USC School of Dramatic Arts in 2013. This speech showcases my ability to combine accessible humor with emotional storytelling.

I enjoy public speaking, but I haven’t overcome addiction or made millions playing the stock market. Still, if you want to pay me to write or deliver a speech for your organization, I won’t complain.

Essays

I felt compelled to write this piece on Medium after a racially-charged incident in an attempt to shine a light on a common problem white people in America have difficulty understanding. This is the purest example of my voice.

Want me to write an article for your website or publication about whiteness, climate change, problematic film tropes, or Michael Shannon?
